Question
How can rapid reality capture of an existing building become a reliable, decision-ready BIM model?
Why this matters
Reality capture can record a place quickly. Useful architectural information still depends on verification, interpretation and modelling judgement. MOLD investigates the method—not the scanning software.
Capture is not yet a model
A Polycam or mobile LiDAR capture is not automatically a verified measured survey. Critical dimensions are independently checked where required.
Higher-accuracy, structural, heritage, deformation-monitoring or topographical requirements may need specialist survey equipment or professional surveyors.
Working method
- Reality capture
- Verification
- Spatial / point-cloud reference
- Interpretation
- Revit existing model
- QA
- Project-ready information
A developing method, not a completed case study.
What MOLD is testing
- Capture time
- Modelling time
- Dimensional deviation against verified measurements
- Missed or incorrectly interpreted elements
- Correction time
- Final model usability
- Confidence in the resulting model
The question is how captured information becomes reliable, useful architectural information. We are documenting where speed is gained, where judgement is required and where correction or specialist verification is necessary.
From research to practice
Research developed by MOLD. Applied through PLANEST.
MOLD develops, tests and documents the workflow. PLANEST applies the resulting method to existing-building information, design development, planning, BIM / Revit modelling and technical coordination.
MOLD × PLANEST
MOLD develops and tests the method. PLANEST applies it in practice.
The lab investigates the method; practice tests its usefulness under real project constraints.
Current status
Developing applied-research workflow.
Pilot work is in development. No completed case study or measured performance results are claimed.
